Outreach is our faith in action, living out Christ’s love beyond our church walls.
This ministry expresses our love and concern through focused action consistent with United Methodist Social Principles, reaching out in God’s love to those in need. A variety of projects provide opportunities for compassionate service at the same time nourishing our Christian connections and relationships: Sunday suppers, Crop Walk, refugee ministies, JFON, New Hope Food Pantry, ChildServ, Avenues To Independence, and more.
Opportunities for Ministry include:
New Hope Community Food Pantry Food items are distributed as a part of this Chicago church’s community services. Groceries are collected and delivered once a month to support the pantry.
LifeSource Blood Drives These are hosted at periodic intervals.
Crop Hunger Walk A community wide event that brings awareness to the issue of local and world hunger, it is coordinated with other area churches and held in October. Proceeds benefit Church World Service and our local Maine Township Emergency Food Pantry.
The Giving Tree Holiday gifts for children and food baskets for families offer an opportunity to be generous during the Christmas season and support the work of Chicago’s Humboldt Park United Methodist Church and ChildServ, helping underserved children and their families in Chicagoland.
Sunday Suppers First UMC partners with local churches and other community organizations in providing a meal on Sunday evenings for the hungry. Meals are served at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church which serves as the host site September through May.
