OUTDOOR WORSHIP, GAMES, & PICNIC WITH AVENUES TO INDEPENDENCE
Join us on Sunday, September 15th at 9:30 AM in the Memorial Garden for a special outdoor worship service with guests and staff from Avenues to Independence; a longtime nonprofit partner of our congregation. Following worship, we’ll play bingo and other games together and enjoy a picnic/BBQ. Please consider bringing a side dish or dessert to the picnic (Last names A-M, please bring a side; Last names N-Z, please bring a dessert); the church will provide hamburgers and hotdogs. As a part of worship on the 15th, we’ll also celebrate our congregation’s “anniversary.” There will be a special moment during the worship service when we look back at all God has done in our past while looking forward with hope to what God has in store for us during the year ahead.

GOOD READS
The next GoodReads meeting will be on Tuesday, September 17 at 7pm by zoom to discuss The Women by Kristin Hannah.  Contact Katy Hansen at katyhansen@comcast.net to receive the Zoom invite.
“Women can be heroes. When twenty-year-old nursing student Frances ‘Frankie’ McGrath hears these words, it is a revelation…When her brother ships out to serve in Vietnam, she joins the Army Nurse Corps and follows his path. As green and inexperienced as the men sent to Vietnam to fight, Frankie is overwhelmed by the chaos and destruction of war… But war is just the beginning for Frankie and her veteran friends. The real battle lies in coming home to a changed and divided America, to angry protesters, and to a country that wants to forget Vietnam”–Dust jacket flap.
Our selection for the following month is These Precious Days: essays by Ann Patchett.

Before we totally say goodbye to summer, let’s enjoy an afternoon of songs, games, stories, laugh and of course, s’mores! Invite friends and family members to sit with us. Let’s bring folding chairs, mats, even bring your dinner food and have it here, if you’d like. See you there!
