We believe that God desires wholeness for us all.
And our Nurture Ministry sees wholeness as an integration of faith and health: body, mind, and spirit. We encourage an understanding and care for human beings in light of their relationship to God, themselves, their families and the society in which they live.
Our Nurture Ministry includes:
Prayer Tree Prayers are powerful, and and our volunteers receive requests and respond to individuals and groups as life events happen. Our congregation can submit prayer requests by placing a prayer card in the offering plate, by calling the church office, or sending an email to our church office at office@parkridgeumc.org. These requests are then sent to Prayer Tree members by our Parish Coordinator via email and/or phone call.
Visitations, Meals, and Transportation Whether it is to a hospital or to a private home, we call on shut-ins and/or hospitalized church members offering comfort, support, and good cheer, delivering meals as needed. We also can help with rides to church, medical appointments, etc. Training is offered to new volunteers. When a new baby arrives, First UMC is not far behind, providing a celebration rose, as well as meal support for the family, as needed.
Bereavement Support In partnership with our UMW, volunteers help comfort and support those who have suffered a recent loss, and by preparing for funeral and memorial events and luncheons.
Prayer Shawl Group A dedicated group gathers on alternating Mondays to knit and pray. Prayer shawls are delivered to those in the hospital, new babies, or anyone who needs to be wrapped in prayer, faith, and love.
Hospitality First UMC seeks to be open and hospitable to all persons. We strive to make our worship and building accessible to those with physical disabilities, allergies, or other special needs.
Nurturing Spaces Prayer and Meditation Room is available on our first floor, for those wishing a quiet space for the spirit.
Special Events These include Holy Week worship events and retreats.
