We believe that God desires wholeness for us all.

And our Nurture Ministry sees wholeness as an integration of faith and health: body, mind, and spirit.  We encourage an understanding and care for human beings in light of their relationship to God, themselves, their families and the society in which they live.

Our Nurture Ministry includes:

Prayer Chain ~ Our prayer chain prays for individuals and groups as life events happen.  Our congregation can submit prayer requests by placing a prayer card in the offering plate, by calling the church office, or sending an email. Call 847-825-3144 or email

Prayer Shawl Group ~ A dedicated group gathers on alternating Mondays to knit and pray.  Prayer shawls are delivered to those in the hospital, new babies, or anyone who needs to be wrapped in prayer, faith, and love.

Health Screenings ~ Periodically throughout the year, we host healthcare groups to perform health screenings, blood drives, and blood pressure checks.

Christian Care Core ~ This team of individuals engages in the ministry of visitation to those members who are unable to get to church.  This team spends time listening, talking, driving persons to appointments, and sharing meals.

Casseroles to New Moms ~ When a new baby arrives, First UMC is not far behind providing a rose and a meal.  Additional meals and support is available as needed for new moms to get to the store or run errands.

Hospitality ~ In order to nurture individuals, First UMC seeks to be open and hospitable to all persons.  We strive to make our worship and building accessible to those with physical disabilities, allergies, or other special needs.
